Polis China kawal ketat kawasan Islam Xinjiang

URUMQ– Pasukan keselamatan ditempatkan di sekitar bandar Urumqi hari ini, sempena ulang tahun pertama rusuhan berdarah di bandar ini berikutan tercetus ketegangan etnik di bahagian barat China, Xinjiang pada tahun lalu.

Urumqi, ibu negeri wilayah Xinjiang menyaksikan keganasan pada 5 Julai tahun lalu apabila etnik minoriti Uighur meluahkan rasa marah mereka selama berdekad-dekad berhubung pemerintahan China di wilayah itu dengan bertindak menyerang etnik majoriti Han.

Beberapa hari kemudian, kumpulan penunjuk perasaan Han yang berang membalas dendam keluar ke jalan-jalan mencetuskan kekacauan etnik terburuk di China bagi tempoh beberapa dekad.

Pergolakan itu meragut hampir 200 nyawa dan mengakibatkan 1,700 yang lain cedera.

Hari ini, anggota pasukan keselamatan berkawal di sekitar kawasan Uighur, Urumqi.

Polis rusuhan yang dilengkapi senjata meronda dalam beberapa kumpulan, diikuti rondaan oleh van-van polis di kawasan tersebut.

Polis bersenjata memakai topi keselamatan dan perisai turut berkawal di tepi Dataran Rakyat di tengah bandar ini, di mana rusuhan tercetus tahun lalu.

“Keadaan boleh dikatakan tegang hari ini. Tidak ramai orang berada di jalan-jalan raya sedangkan pada waktu ini biasanya orang ramai sedang sibuk.

“Etnik Uighur mungkin tidak berani keluar kerana hari ini adalah ulang tahun pertama rusuhan,” kata Liu Yan, 50, seorang pemandu teksi daripada etnik Han. – AFP

Berdasarkan statistik populasi yang dikeluarkan pada tahun 1936, bilangan umat Islam di China dianggarkan berjumlah 48,104,240 orang.Sejak Xinjiang diambil alih oleh Parti Komunis pada tahun 1949,Presiden Mao Zedong pada ketika itu berhasrat untuk mengasingkan umatIslam berdasarkan latar belakang etnik dan bukan identiti sebagai Islam.Penghapusan sekitar separuh umat Islam yang begitu drastik tidak pernah dijelaskan oleh kerajaan pada ketika itu. Walaupun begitu, rayuan sejumlah sami Tibet atau pejuang-pejuang demokrasi di Dataran Tiannamen telah mengurangkan penghapusan umat Islam China secara beramai-ramai.
